Route: Dragon Tail Peak/Basic Route Climbed: June 4, 1994 Party: Mountaineer group. Day 1: Hike into Colechuck lake. Cloudy but clears by evening. Day 2: High clouds at 5 am. Start by 5:30. Hike up snow gully to W of mountain. By 7:30 we are at the col. Snow is hard and we use crampons. Weather is moving in. We traverse up to the steep snow gully were we spend too much time futzing around with ropes. Fortunately, we find steps in the gully and ascend to col. From col we traverse left (this is the most difficult climbing ~ exposed class 3), drop down from ridge to snow field S of peak, and ascend to peak. The backside of the mountain is a walk up. We descend another snow field E of the peak to Assgard pass and from Assgard pass to Colechuck lake. Hike out and are at cars by 4:30. [Route description written by Tom Unger]
