Route: Buck Mountain/SW slopes Climbed: Aug 27, 1994 Party: Matt Freedman and Tom. Day hike from High Pass. Start at 8:30 am. Hike N past lake at High Pass onto eastern slopes of northern valley. Ascend heather and talus toward snow field. From middle of snow field traverse heather, talus, and pummice fields to rocky area. Climb rocks to ridge and descend easy pummice slopes to pass at head of lewis creek. Take a good look at Buck mountain on the way down. From head of Lewis creek, ascend rock, pummice, and lightly forested heather toward lower right end of cliff band, where there is a small water fall. Climb rocks to the left of water, and continue up more or less along the stream to the glacier remnants. There are three major summits. The S summit looks highest and appears very difficult. Becky says the middle is the highest, and and be approached along S ridge from gap. We climbed the N summit. Back at High Pass by 5 PM. Also climbed small unnamed peak W of high pass. Traverse on ridge S of the lake. Keep to S of ridge and cross open pummice slopes to snow fields and rock. Ascend snow or pummice slope to gain the N ridge. From there it's a pleasant 3rd class scramble to summit. [Route description written by Tom Unger]
