Route: Dome Peak/Basic Route Climbed: May 30, 1995 Party: Everett Mountaineers Holly and I hiked the Downy Creek trail in 2.5 hours. A hiker's trail ascends the left (E) side of Bachelor Creek. With in a 1/4 mile it is joined by a trail coming in from the left. Make note of this for the descent. The trail continues up mostly in forest. When it comes out in to a large brushy area look for a log down at the creek. Crossing on the log means leaving the trail, but I'm told it does not extend much further on the L bank. Once across the log bushwhack up through slide alder, then trees, then more slide alder, and finally trees. There is an old trail, which may be possible to pick up at the first band of trees. Ascend the R bank to the head of the creek. Then ascend through a band of smaller trees to the high side valley. From there go to the pass above Cub lake. Camp above Cub lake, or on Itswoot ridge. From the ridge, the SW summit appears higher, but the NW is the true higher summit. Ascend to the col N of the NW summit, then ascend the rock ridge to the summit. It was a knife edge snow ridge when we did the trip, but usual is an exposed 3rd class scramble. Holly and I left Itswoot ridge around 4 or 5 PM and made it to the cars by 1 AM.
