This was a 3 day ski trip to Yellow Aster Butte. I also returned to this place for another trip in 2007
|Gearing up at the car.||Walking the Twin Lakes Road.|
|Andrew and Sean into the soup. This was an old spur road we followed a short ways before begining our real uphill work.||Some dificulties manouvering skis through tight trees...|
|Andrew Boudreaux.||Andrew breaking trail.|
|Setting up camp.||We brought a megamid and beta mid. These are floorless "tents".|
Day 2 we skiied up from camp a short ways and found a good ski run. We tried to ski up to the ridge top but found the wind much worse and the snow less certain. We took a break at camp and did 3 runs in the afternoon. Snow and wind often. Not many pictures of the skiing because it was too cold and went to stop and get my camera out.
|Our camp as we leave for a day of skiing.||Me at lunch.|
|And back in the tent cooking dinner. You can see that a layer of ice has formed on the inside of the tent.||The megamid has no floor. We have dug a large pit, which gives us plenty of room but is in now way cozy.|
Another blizzard overnight. The wind would rattle the tent, loosening ice crystals which then fell on our faces.
On the way out we dropped over the ridge above us and descended the east side. The snow here was very deep and light with no wind packing at all.

|Partial clearning.||Skiing down through the forest.|

|Sean.||Forest skiing. Most of this was pleasant with some difficulties at the very end.|
|Sean had some binding issues. Resolved in time for the ski out on the road.|
