Tumtum is a Chinook Jargon term meaning "from the pulsations of the heart", or "the heart, the will, the mind." Chinook Jargon was a simplified language comprised of words from English, French, and numerous languages belonging to Native people in the Northwest region of the North American continent. The Jargon was used widely in this region for basic communication and trading purposes and was most common during the 19th century.
