# Day 16: Ahous Bay to Tofino

At about 9:30am, after a day of rest, we left Ahous Bay (on Vargas Island) and paddled the 7.2 Nm to the beach at our campground.

It was a beautiful day.

We covered almost as many miles walking from the beach to the campsite (not really, but it felt like it). Then we walked some more to get the free shuttle into town. After a little angst, we were able to retrieve our food packages at the post office, without the 'required' tracking numbers, and we rewarded ourselves for our efforts thus far at the Tofino and Brewing company.

I dare say I rather enjoy the day right up until Tom and David shared the plan for Thursday; our alarm call is at 3:30 am and departure is at 5:00 a.m. This news has already drained some of the joy from tomorrow's planned rest. Nelson and I will need to keep an eye on them, and try to ensure they don't go off planning without our input in future.

I should note that we remain very grateful to Mary and Sandra for handling the food package shipment. 😁

Everyone \*complains\* about the weather but no one does anything. It is not on a whim that David and I chose 5:00am for launch, it is in response to the afternoon headwinds *on a 24nm day.* If 5:00 is too early, fix the winds.

Thursday will be difficult. We can’t stay in Tofino and there is no closer campsite.
