Day 6: Kuyquot

Rain forecast for the morning so we settle on 8 AM meeting for breakfast. After leisurely breakfast, pack and lunch by 10:30. Paddle past in an island with a tunnel. I’ve been here several times, but the tide has never been high enough to actually paddle through the tunnel.

Cross to the mission group and land on the south Spring Island camp from the west. Surprising how often the land does not conform to my memory of it. But then we walk across a small pass and see the beaches I remember. Walking the other way, we come to the cement pad and basketball hoop. It’s all there.

We cross a small island west of Union Island. One I’ve seen the distance many times, but never paddle to. We circle around and on the south side find a landing on a beach with space to camp. And, of all things, a rusted remnant of an alien space probe. I’m not surprised. This area has had a lot of alien activities. I will try to point out the crashed alien spaceship on Nookya Island to the guys.

In the evening after dinner, we walk around and discover thousands of fossilized imprint of seashells. Inadvertently we are up until 10 PM.
