Joseph hooked a large fish and fought it for a while but it eventually got away, taking his lewer, line, and breaking his poll.

On the way back through the Acous peninsula we stop at the site of a native village.

Day 15, 8/16/01

Weather: Overcast, light drizzle, south wind.

Paddle: Bunsbies to Kyuquot to near Fair Harbor

In the morning, when it is time to leave the Bunsbies, there is a strong wind blowing from the south. Paddling is going to be difficult. We make a plan, stay together, and make good progress. Half way through we pass by an island. We are only expecting a short break in the lee of the island, but we are more fortunate than that. In a small channel between two islands I find a tiny, tiny beach which can be approached with not too much difficulty. We are able to get out, stretch our legs, and empty bladders.

From there we bend our paddles toward the restaurant in Kyuquot where we get another fine meal. This is their last day of the season (which is surprising because it is not all that late in the season.) Unfortunately, no mocha blasts this time.

More views of Kyuquot. Not as interesting as the outer coast.

Marie in the tent, last evening of the trip.

From Kyuquot village we paddle on into Kyuquot sound. We consider one camp site in a small, unpleasant inlet, another in a nice lagoon with no tent sites, and settle on a small camp not too far from Fair Harbor. The bugs are bad and we are in the bug tent again. Another paddling group camps on the far end of the beach. They too are taking out tomorrow.
